July 28, 2025 Meeting
President Dennis Pratt called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM at Kro Bar.
Officers and Directors: Present – Ed Chaplinski, Paul Helbach, Glen Hill, Courtney Johnson, Ken Lundberg, Dennis Pratt, Mike Sierszen, Den Smet, Walt Swanson, Jim Waletzko, Dean Wellman, Mike Zicus and Ken Zivic.
Minutes of the June Meeting: The minutes as written in the July newsletter were approved following a motion by Dean Wellman, second by Mike Zicus and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Treasurer’s and Financial Secretary’s Reports: President Dennis Pratt reported for Treasurer Jeff Stollenwerk. June’s beginning balance was $18,200.67, and the ending balance was $8,807.77, with the following expenses: ProPrint (raffle tickets, envelopes, banner) $531.32; Constant Contact Subscription $457.10; Katie Thompson (June Newsletter) $200.00; ProPrint (June Newsletter) $35.73; UMD and D. Gallagher (college scholarship) $5,000.00; Scouts Troop 212 (river clean-up) $250.00; transfer to short-term CD $10,000.00. The Treasurer’s report was approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg, second by Den Smet and unanimous approval by voice vote. Financial Secretary Dean Wellman reported that there were $1,766.00 in total deposits into the general fund since the last meeting and that the Club had 2 new members and 3 renewals. The Financial Secretary’s report was approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg and a second by Jim Waletzko.
Committee Reports
Legislative, Audit, Education and Scholarship: Nothing to report.
Habitat: Dennis Pratt – Saturday’s habitat project drew 22 volunteers. Four non-members were awarded a year’s Club membership. All went well, Paul Piszczek split the group into two and worked from both ends of the 1000-foot project section. Project was completed within the three-hour time span. Paul has informed us that we’ll be working on the section downstream of Dennis Road this coming Saturday.
Membership: Jim Waletzko/Ed Chaplinski – 4 new members as a result working on Habitat. Ed Chaplinski says he has delivered extra newsletters to several places Hayward and River Falls.
Social media: Mike Zicus/Dennis Pratt – Mike the website content up to date. Dennis Pratt reminded the board members that we must have our newsletter items to Katie by the first of each month to ensure she has enough time to produce the newsletter.
Other Business
Raffle 2025 Tickets: Mike Sierszen – Sales are going well.
Family Fun Day Discussion: Date is August 16th. Most volunteer needs have been met, but additional help would be welcomed.
Fly of the Month: Dean Wellman – Harvey Kalweit Beauly Snow Fly
Canoe Donation: The Club was offered a canoe as a donation. The Board decided to decline the offer because of the logistics involved.
