2025 College Scholarship Recipient
This year's Brule River Sportsmen’s Club College Scholarship recipient is David Gallagher. Dave is originally from Maplewood, Minnesota and grew up hunting, fishing, and camping both at his family’s cabin in western Wisconsin and along the North Shore of Lake Superior. These experiences sparked a lifelong passion for aquatic ecology and conservation. He recently completed an M.S. in Water Resources Science at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, during which he spent two summers researching fish communities in the inland lakes of Isle Royale. For his Ph.D., Dave plans to examine changes in a broader set of lakes across Minnesota or Wisconsin and integrate environmental DNA sampling from Isle Royale. He currently serves as president of the University of Minnesota-Duluth American Fisheries Society student subunit, where he helps coordinate research talks, hatchery tours, fishing outings, and aquarium visits. Looking ahead, Dave hopes to build a career as a fisheries research scientist, contributing to the understanding and conservation of freshwater ecosystems throughout the Great Lakes region.
