President Dennis Pratt called the meeting to order at 6:04 PM at Round-Up North in Brule.
Officers and Directors: Present – Glen Hill, Courtney Johnson, Mick Killoren, Ken Lundberg, Dennis Pratt, Mike Sierszen, Dennis Smet, Jeff Stollenwerk, Walt Swanson, Dean Wellman, and Mike Zicus.
Minutes of the October Meeting: The minutes as written in the November newsletter were approved following a motion by Jeff Stollenwerk and a second by Mike Zicus and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Treasurer’s and Financial Secretary’s Reports: Dennis Pratt reported for Financial Secretary Dean Wellman that there were deposits for a total of $1,218.80 since the last meeting into the general fund and the Club had 3 new members and 8 renewals. The Financial Secretary’s Report was approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg and a second by Courtney Johnson. Treasurer Jeff Stollenwerk reported that November’s beginning balance was $26,304.18, and the ending balance was $24,524.20 with the following expenses: Katie Thompson (October Newsletter) ($200.00); Transfer to Savings (Donations) ($100.00); Dean Wellman (Merchandise Packaging and Shipping) ($448.52); Transfer to Savings (Raffle Proceeds) ($2,000.00); Pro Print (October Newsletter) ($25.13); Katie Thompson (November Newsletter) ($200.00); Pro Print (November Newsletter) ($25.13). The Treasurer’s Report was approved following a motion by Dennis Smet and a second by Ken Lundberg and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Nomination of Officers – Mike Zicus moved to nominate the current officers to serve another term. Motion was followed by a second by Mike Sierszen and unanimous approval by voice vote. Nominated officers to be placed on a ballot to be sent out in December with a January 15th response deadline.
Habitat: Dennis Pratt – nothing to report.
Legislative: Ken Lundberg – nothing to report.
Scholarship: Mike Sierszen – College Scholarship announcements will be sent by mid-January.
Education: Dennis Smet – Next Monday November 29th at 8am Dennis Smet will pick up 500 lake trout eggs for the aquarium projects. Carey Edwards, Fish Biologist – US Fish and Wildlife Service, said this variety of eggs should do much better.
Membership: Dennis Pratt – We’ve removed all those from our membership who have not paid any dues since early 2019.
December Membership Drive – Dennis will be sending a renewal reminder email to all members in good standing, plus sending a reminder to those who had not paid dues in 2020. Dennis will also send an ‘Invitation to Join our Club – we’d love to have you’ email to all non-members who have purchased Club store items in the past 3 years. This was approved following a motion by Jeff Stollenwerk and a second by Walt Swanson and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Budget: Jeff is researching what is needed for a financial review. Suggested going back 5 years. He has compiled a list of all our Financial Data sources. This was approved following a motion by Walt Swanson and a second by Ken Lundberg and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Social Media: Mike Zicus/Dennis Pratt – Mike has been updating the habitat pages on our website. Dennis has added 4 postings of Brook Trout to Facebook.
Board Stipends were reviewed and changed to the following: President ($550.00); Vice President ($150.00); Financial Secretary ($550.00); Treasurer ($550.00); Recording Secretary ($500.00); Social Media Administrator ($500.00). This was approved following a motion by Mike Sierszen and a second by Glen Hill and unanimous approval by voice vote. A Christmas Bonus of ($200.00) was suggested for our newsletter editor, Katie Thompson, for going “above and beyond” in producing the newsletter. This was approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg and a second by Dennis Smet and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Finalizing the Club Constitution and By-laws Review – Ken Lundberg started the discussion. One section was called out to be reviewed and that will be completed by our next meeting.
Private Property Awareness Issue – Dean Wellman heading up the effort. Draft copy being circulated now, further discussion will be necessary.
AIS with Douglas County – Jeff Stollenwerk mentioned they are looking for volunteers. We will invite them to the February meeting to describe their program.
LSRI Water Temperature and Sediment Data – Dennis Pratt reported that Amy Eliot of LSRI will be invited to our January meeting to discuss if local members of the Club would be interested in serving on a “technical team” and perhaps hosting a meeting. They are looking for our help to figure out what to do next with the temperature and sediment data they’ve collected on the Brule tributaries.
Potential Club’s Support of ‘Cancer Patient Fishing Trip’ – Ken Zivic will present this idea at our February meeting.
South Shore Grade – Nothing new to report.
Fly of the Month – Will resume in our March issue.
Club calendar development – Dennis Pratt will be putting together a Club calendar for the Board (to remind of all required actions each at each month’s meeting). Will email to the board.
Great Waters Fly-fishing Expo – March 18-20, 2022, at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. We will be looking for volunteers.
