Committee Reports

Habitat: Ron Gaare – April’s Meeting will be our annual Volunteer Appreciation meeting.  Hors d’oeuvres will be served.  Last year the Club had 20 individuals volunteer their time.  This summer’s project has not been selected by the committee yet.

Legislative: Ken Lundberg – nothing to report.

Scholarship: Paul Helbach – all Scholarship deadline reminders have been sent out. About thirty days to go.  Only UW Madison responded to the reminder so far.

Education: Dennis Smet – Dennis Pratt and Dennis Smet made presentations to seven classes this year, three at Northwestern Middle School and four at Superior Senior to a total of 200 students. Courtney Johnson joined them at Northwestern.

Membership:  Dennis Pratt reported that he had sent 45 emails to addresses that were opening the newsletter but have not yet renewed.  Jim Waletzko mentioned that we have members as far as Garden Grove, CA area viewing the newsletter.

Budget: Budget Committee chairman, Jeff Stollenwerk – The budget committee met earlier tonight where they reviewed and approved forwarding the budget report to the Board. The 2018 Budget Report was presented to and approved by the full board following a motion by Ron Gaare and a second by Jim Waletzko and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Other Business

County Congress Local Resolutions: Ken Lundberg – you can go online starting at the meeting time to answer questions; however please attend meeting if possible.  This is the only way to cast your vote for congress members as the online process does not allow that.  Questions 82, 83 and 87 are the questions that the Club wants members to review closely before answering.  Ken Lundberg asked if the Club would support 87 as it is on the questionnaire.  This was approved following a motion by Dean Wellman and a second by Mike Zicus and unanimous approval by voice vote.

South Shore Grade Update – The FWS has approved the $65,000 grant to DNR so this along with all the donations should be enough to fund the project. Legal ownership of the grade remains the stumbling block. In order to file a water regulatory permit, DNR needs to have landowner permission. The South Shore Grade Committee is working diligently to resolve this so the project can still proceed later this summer.

Meeting time start discussion – After a short discussion, Courtney Johnson made a motion to keep the meetings at 6PM and a second by Jeff Stollenwerk.  This was followed by unanimous approval by voice vote.

Great Waters Expo: Expos wrap-up discussion – Ken Lundberg and Dean Wellman presented a list of suggestions for next year’s Expo.  The Report was approved following a motion by Dean Wellman and a second by Mike Sierszen and unanimous approval by voice vote.

May Meeting Date Change – Normally our meetings are set for the 4th Monday of each Month. In May that date falls on Memorial Day so the board moved the May meeting a week earlier to Monday May 20th instead.
