President Dennis Pratt called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM at Round-Up North in Brule.
Officers and Directors: Present – Ed Chaplinski, Paul Helbach, Courtney Johnson, Mick Killoren, Ken Lundberg, Dennis Pratt, Mike Sierszen, Walt Swanson, Jim Waletzko, Dean Wellman, Mike Zicus and Ken Zivic.
Minutes of the June Meeting: The minutes as written in the July newsletter were approved following a motion by Dean Wellman and a second by Mike Zicus and approved unanimously by voice vote.
Treasurer’s and Financial Secretary’s Reports: Financial Secretary Dean Wellman reported deposits into the general fund of $1,438.56 since the last meeting and that the Club had 5 new members. The Financial Secretary’s Report was approved following a motion by Jim Waletzko and a second by Ken Lundberg. President Dennis Pratt reported for Treasurer Jeff Stollenwerk that July’s beginning general checking balance was $23,312.79 and the ending balance was $23,574.92 with the following expenses: Pro Print (June Newsletter) ($25.13); Transfer to Scholarship Savings (high school) ($200.00); Katie Thompson (July Newsletter) ($200.00); Dennis Pratt (Spring Cleanup Donuts) ($25.41),(Habitat Project Tools) ($485.70),(Newsletter Mailing Postage and Supplies) ($215.06); Pro Print (July Newsletter) ($25.13). The Treasurer’s Report was approved following a motion by Walt Swanson and a second by Courtney Johnson and unanimous approval by voice vote.
Habitat: Dennis Pratt – On July 24th work was done on the East Fork. The project used a gravel pile stored there for 16 years to repair a number of spawning sites. Fourteen volunteers helped. The youngest was 22 years old. The location was loaded with fry; however, now it’s even better (will post Sam Alvar’s video on Facebook tomorrow).
Legislative: Ken Lundberg – nothing to report.
Scholarship: Courtney Johnson will ask Amy Bates, our High School scholarship awardee, for information about herself and invite her to a future Club meeting.
Education: General discussion as to how to increase youth involvement with the Club. Ken Zivic has joined this committee.
Membership: Dennis Pratt – e-renewal reminders were sent to 180 unpaid members on July 14th (63% opened it, 17 have renewed thus far). Also enclosed 7 renewal reminders with paper newsletters. The Club board will be reviewing the remaining unpaid members next month.
Budget: Ken Lundberg made a motion that we have an external audit, seconded by Ed Chaplinski, and approved unanimously by voice vote.
Social Media: Mike Zicus – Website: our site had regular monthly updates, our college scholarship page was updated, and two new sections were created (a High School Scholarship page and a new category page for essays / poems reflecting on the river). We also had several inquiries on a variety of topics. Newsletter: Dean Wellman says he received permission and enough information to put together an article about the Norlings for a future newsletter.
2021 Raffle: Mike Sierszen led a discussion regarding raffle ticket sales. He would like to receive regular updates on remaining tickets as few remain.
Fly of the month: Will be the cinnamon ant.
Club Store Addition: Paul Helbach led a discussion on his suggestion to sell the Luthen’s book in our Club store. Will discuss further next month.
South Shore Grade Update: Nothing new to report.
Private Property Awareness Issue: – Ken Lundberg made a motion to form a committee to discuss how to proceed. Second by Mike Zicus and unanimous approval by voice vote. Ken suggested some landowners who might be willing to help and will reach out to Bob Banks for ideas on who to ask. Dean Wellman volunteered to help.
Update Club Charter: Ken Lundberg waiting for feedback from board members.
Line Collection Test Project: Phil Brown was not able to attend the meeting.
