President Dennis Pratt called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM at Round-Up North in Brule.

Officers and Directors: Present – Ron Gaare, Paul Helbach, Glen Hill, Courtney Johnson, Ken Lundberg, Dennis Pratt, Dennis Smet, Jeff Stollenwerk, Walt Swanson and Mike Zicus.

Minutes of the January Meeting: The minutes as published in the February newsletter were approved following a motion by Dennis Smet and a second by Ken Lundberg and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Treasurer’s and Financial Secretary’s Reports: Dennis Pratt reported for Financial Secretary Dean Wellman that there were four deposits for a total of $2,236.37 in January and February into general fund. The Club had 3 new members. The Financial Secretary’s Report was approved following a motion by Mike Zicus and a second by Ken Lundberg. Treasurer Jeff Stollenwerk reported that February’s beginning balance was $10,948.96, and the ending balance was $12,632.14 with the following expenses: Bill Gobin (Postage) ($8.55); Joe Scaccia (January Meeting) ($50.00); Dennis Pratt (Postage & Shipping) ($111.60); Arrowhead Printing (January newsletter) ($183.04); Katie Thompson (February Newsletter) ($200.00). Outstanding checks and scheduled payments: Arrowhead Printing (February newsletter) ($182.00); Arrowhead Printing (election, renewal, accomplishments) ($423.00); Joe Scaccia (February meeting) ($50.00). Outstanding deposits: PayPal from online Club Store ($318.54). The Treasurer’s Report was approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg and a second by Mike Zicus and unanimous approval by voice vote. Discussion about having Jeff seek out information on money market upon maturity of CD, motion made to allow Jeff to make decision on best method and to seek a $25,000 CD for scholarship and place the remaining balance into the Scholarship savings account. Motion was approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg and a second by Courtney Johnson and unanimous approval by voice vote. Jeff also noted that online donations were not being process and that Wendy was working to correct this glitch.

Committee Reports

Habitat: Ron Gaare – Nothing to report yet regarding 2019 projects.  We will have the annual habitat volunteer recognition at the April monthly meeting.   Dennis Smet Made a motion to present each new volunteer at last summer’s project a one-year club membership with a second by Mike Zicus. This motion was passed by unanimous voice

Legislative: Ken Lundberg – Ken will be stepping down from his role on the board of directors with the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. He has a possible replacement.

Scholarship: Paul Helbach – Paul reported that letters had been sent out earlier and reminders will be sent out soon.  The Scholarship committee will make their decision by May or June.  Northwestern High School will send their selection for that scholarship to Ron Gaare after its announcement at graduation.

Education: Dennis Smet – No news from the Hayward aquarium project.  Northwestern Middle School 6th graders and Superior High School Juniors and Seniors have 3 classrooms awaiting presentations in both locations.  These visits are planned for the week of March 4th.

Membership: Dennis Pratt – Renewals are coming back slowly, 42% have renewed electronically.  Dennis has been sending out renewal reminders.  186 have renewed so far.  Ken Lundberg continues to review the email list during this process.  Paul Helbach made a motion to make Anna Swanson an honorary life member and a second by Ken Lundberg and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Budget: Jeff Stollenwerk –budget committee will meet and review the budget one hour before the regular meeting next month.

Social Media: Mike Zicus – A presentation will follow the meeting.

Other Business

Resolution supporting creation of a fish passage ladder at the lamprey barrier on the Iron River.  Ken Lundberg suggested that he bring the resolution to Wisconsin Conservation Congress.  Ken also reminded members to attend the Wisconsin Conservation Congress’ Spring Fish and Wildlife Hearings.  Resolution was approved following a motion by Mike Zicus and a second by Jeff Stollenwerk and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Financial Secretary duties/records discussion – Dennis Pratt will continue to do this until after the Expo and will transfer duties to Dean Wellman in April.

Great Waters Expo – Booth attendants will be Courtney Johnson, Ken Lundberg, and Dean Wellman. Glen Hill brought in three finished large map frames for meeting attendees to examine.  Framed maps will be priced at $125.  Supplies for the Expos have been gathered and attendants believe the website changes will be very positive for the Expo. Paul Helbach will also send down some walking sticks for the Expo.

Twin Gables – Ken Lundberg will check with Twin Gables to see if they are willing to display a large framed print of the lower river that would be available for sale.
