President Dennis Pratt called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM at Round-Up North in Brule.

Officers and Directors: Present – Ed Chaplinski, Ron Gaare, Paul Helbach, Glen Hill, Courtney Johnson, Ken Lundberg, Dennis Pratt, Mike Sierszen, Dennis Smet, Jeff Stollenwerk, Walt Swanson, and Ken Lundberg.

Minutes of the January Meeting: The minutes as written in the February newsletter were approved following a motion by Ken Lundberg and a second by Glen Hill and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Treasurer’s and Financial Secretary’s Reports: Dennis Pratt reported for Financial Secretary Dean Wellman that there were deposits for a total of $2,590.08 since the last meeting into the general fund and the Club had 4 new members. The Financial Secretary’s Report was approved following a motion by Courtney Johnson and a second by Ron Gaare. Treasurer Jeff Stollenwerk reported that February’s beginning balance was $10,591.19, and the ending balance was $12,679.54 with the following expenses: ACH Bill Pay Fee (>30 day no activity) ($4.95); Pro Print (January Newsletter) ($25.13); Katie Thompson (January Newsletter) ($200.00); Dennis Pratt (Postage) ($71.65); Katie Thompson (February Newsletter) ($200.00). The Treasurer’s Report was approved following a motion by Dennis Smet and a second by Mike Sierszen and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Committee Reports

Habitat: Ron Gaare – July 25th and August 1st were chosen as tentative Habitat dates for 2020. The projects will be adding gravel upstream of Stone’s Bridge. The Club’s April Meeting will be our Habitat Volunteer Appreciation night.

Legislative: Ken Lundberg – The Lake Superior Fisheries Management Plan is available for viewing at: https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/lakesuperior/LakeSuperiorFishManagementPlan.html The Annual Spring Fish and Wildlife Public Hearing and Wisconsin Conservation Congress (WCC) county meeting to be held Monday April 13th. Most the Clubs in the area are going to support the restoration of fish passage at the Orienta Dam on the Iron River. Please attend, read carefully, and vote.

Scholarship: Mike Sierszen – Three applicants so far and a couple of application inquiries. Ken Lundberg made a motion to transfer $1,500 to the Scholarship fund from checking and leave the College Scholarship CD to grow, followed by a second by Mike Sierszen and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Education: Dennis Smet – Craig Anderson from Northwestern Middle School said this year’s fish are the best they ever had. Superior High School fish are also reported as doing well. Picking a date for presentation was discussed, but not finalized. Frank Pratt doing the same class for two schools in the Hayward area. He will be contacting the Hayward school to determine if his help is wanted.

Membership: Dennis Pratt – Currently we have 404 members, 75 have requested paper newsletters, of these 35 remain unpaid, 11 are unpaid for the past two years. Electronic newsletters are being sent to 329 members of these only 92 have paid, and 109 are unpaid for two years. A reminder note will be drafted and sent.

Budget: Budget committee will meet before the March meeting.

Social Media: Mike Zicus/Dennis Pratt – page on the website on our history needs updating. Ken Lundberg made motion to form a committee to get this done, followed by a second by Mike Zicus and unanimous approval by voice vote. Glen Hill, Ken Lundberg, Mike Sierszen, and Mike Zicus volunteered for the committee. Dennis Pratt will be adding some of our calendar items to Facebook shortly. We currently have 2,100 followers.

Other Business

South Shore Grade Update – Dennis Pratt, reported there has been some movement on contacting landowners. Once the DNR has obtained signed temporary easements from the adjoining landowners, the Town of Brule will purchase the grade from the railroad. Then the DNR will pass the funds gathered by all the clubs to the Township. Removal can then begin.

Fly of the Month – First fly will appear in the March newsletter issue.

May meeting date change – Fourth Monday in May conflicts with Memorial Day, so Ken Lundberg made motion to move the meeting a week earlier to May 18th, followed by a second by Walt Swanson and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Donation Requests – A request for donation to Izaak Walton League 50th Earth Day Event – April 18th was discussed, Ken Lundberg made motion to donate $250 for the event, followed by a second by Mike Sierszen and unanimous approval by voice vote.

Update Club Charter – Ken Lundberg brought to the Board’s attention that out Charter is quite dated, Ken plans to ask club member Tom Sklebar to assist with an update.

Set Spring Clean-up dates – Dennis Smet mentioned that we normally choose the weekend before opener which would be April 25th; May 9th was chosen as the backup date.

Great Water Fly Fishing Expo – Ken Lundberg said that he has supplies ready to go. Last minute volunteers were discussed, and Mike Sierszen volunteered.
