March 22, 2021 Electronic Meeting

President Dennis Pratt emailed draft March meeting notes to board members on March 22nd.

Minutes of the February Meeting: February meeting minutes received unanimous board approval in early March after a motion by Ken Zivic and a second by Walt Swanson.

March Treasurer and Financial Secretary Reports: Both Dean Wellman’s financial report and Jeff Stollenwerk’s treasurer report were emailed to the board on March 22nd. Dean reports that deposits in the general fund totaled $1,910.00 since the last meeting and the Club had 4 new members. The Club sold 7 lower river maps, 1 poster and 7 upper river maps. Dean reports the following donations to the various funds: General – $10.00, Education – $10.00, College Scholarship – $1,140.00, Habitat $130.00 and High School Scholarship – $10.00. Jeff reported that January’s beginning balance was $21,727.19 and the ending balance was $22,497.06. He reported the following expenses: Pro Print (February newsletter) – $25.13, Katie Thompson (February newsletter) – $200.00 and Round Up North donation – $500.00. Both reports were approved by a unanimous board vote without changes following a motion from Ken Zivic and a second by Ken Lundberg. Additionally, Mike Zicus made a motion to transfer $3,000 from the Scholarship CD to our Scholarship fund before renewing the CD. The motion received a second by Dennis Pratt and unanimous board approval.

Committee Reports

Habitat, Education and Legislative Committees: Nothing to report from these committees.

Scholarship: This year’s College Scholarship was announced in the March newsletter and Mike Sierszen had also sent out notifications to the various colleges. Applications are due by the end of April.

Membership: An article appeared in the Saturday/Sunday Duluth News Tribune regarding the Club’s activities with a note on how to join.

Social Media: Web Site: Mike Zicus reports that he handled 5 inquiries and made about 18 – 20 changes / additions to the website. Newsletter: The April newsletter will feature a Spring opener article by Ken Lundberg and the 2020 Fall fishway summary by DNR biologist, Paul Piszczek. Face Book: Three items were added since the last meeting. The steelhead video posted has reached just under 5,000 people.

Budget: Budget Chairman Jeff Stollenwerk compiled the 2020 final budget material and submitted it to the budget committee (Bill Gobin, Ron Gaare, Ken Zivic and Dennis Pratt) for approval. It was unanimously approved without change by the committee members. Jeff’s summary report is submitted to the full board for approval on March 22nd. The report was approved by a unanimous board vote without changes following a motion from Ken Lundberg and a second by Mick Killoren.

Other Business

South Shore Grade Update – Nothing new to report

Private Property Awareness Issue – An article drafted by Mike Zicus appeared in the March newsletter.

Fly of the Month for April – The April fly will be a Hendrickson emerger submitted by longtime club member, Ron Manz.

Spring Clean-up – This year’s Spring Clean-up will take place on April 24th (rain date May 8th). We will meet at 9AM at the pavilion for area assignments and we are planning on providing a pizza lunch in the pavilion when clean-up volunteers return at noon. Take home containers will be provided.

2021 Raffle – Jeff will be applying for the raffle license and Mike Sierszen will have raffle tickets printed once the Norling rod is in hand. Damian Wilmot has informed us that the framed print is ready, and he will get it to us when needed.

May In-Person Meeting – We are planning on holding our first in-person meeting on May 24th at Round Up North.
